I Just Don't Want Breast Milk In ... ANYTHING I EAT!

So ... there is the story out there about how "PETA wants their breast milk ice cream and they want you to have some too. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) sent a letter to Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream requesting that they replace the cow's milk they use to make their famous ice cream with breast milk."

YUCK!

I am all for the ethical treatment of all animals and I am sure that PETA means well and that this is maybe even a realistic and rational, not to mention humane, suggestion, to encouraging the ethical treatment of cows, but ...

YUCK!

I personally do not want breast milk in anything I eat! I have a hard enough time drinking cow's milk ... and I happen to like cow's milk. But, sometimes ... if I get to thinking about the fact that it is cow's milk, I can work myself up into a bit of an ick induced frenzy - if I think about it too much - you know. Meat too, for that matter. I can't think about it too much or I get a little squeamish.

I could never eat ice cream with breast milk - ever! I'm sure that some folks could and wouldn't give it a second thought - not me! I even have a hard time believing that such a thing would ever be considered.

Now ... soy - I could handle. That is a reasonable solution, if you ask me!

What about you?

Are you for this idea?

Would it bother you to know that it was breast milk in your ice cream instead of cow's milk?

Leave me your opinion on this issue in the comments - I'd love to know if you are with me or are On The Flipside on this icky topic!

And, please go over to my sidebar and participate in the poll on this subject.

Poll results: Would you eat store bought ice cream made with human breast milk? 16 people participated in poll. (0) said YES. (0) said NO. 16 (100%) said Not On Your Life and (0) answered to If it was my only choice.

Ugh. Breast milk? In ICE CREAM?!?! Are they frickin' crazy?!?!

The only people who should be consuming breast milk are children under 2!!!! (give or take)

Um, I am SO with you on this. I would not eat someone else's milk. ICk is an understatement there.

And really, if we started needing breastmilk for commercial use, would there not be human rights issues? I mean, if cows can be pumped up on hormones and crap for our culinary pleasure what would happen to women. And it would be those in the lower economic echelon that would be impacted....

I shudder to think. Let the cows do the lactating.

I had a friend whose neighbor brought her a pumpkine pie. And my friend and her family ate this pie, and declared it to be the best pie they'd ever had. So my friend told this to her neighbor, and asked her secret.

Yep, you guessed it!

(gag!)

UTTERly rediculous (pun intended;)!!! i understand that slaughter houses and the such could upset some people. BUT, i don't understand how milking a milk cow equals maltreatment???
it is a pretty funny thought, though, the picture in my mind of a mommy milking factory...
WTH are they thinking??? how would that work, anyway??? spit, spat, YUCK!!!

Nasty. Disgusting. We don't know what that mom is eating, that's going into her breastmilk. Anyway, what mom would give up her own breastmilk to feed it to strangers in the form of ice cream? that is ridiculous. I can see giving it to a preemie baby whose mom can't nurse or something like that. But ice cream? That's disgusting.

And I don't like soy but I'd be willing to try ice cream with Goats' milk. It doesn't taste that different. I think soy is some truly nasty stuff.

I am SO WITH YOU on this one!... Joe told me about it the other day, and I was stunned into silence. *shudder*

Ummm I am speechless... which doesn't happen often.

Gross- is all I can really say about this. Gross.

Oh icky, icky, icky. No way, no how. I wouldn't even think it would be allowed. There are germ and disease issues here. That's almost like drinking someone's blood - ewwwwwww!

I actually had a baby sitter that I was interviewing ask me if I wanted her to nurse my child along with hers and I was like, uh, NO, I don't think so and I picked up my baby and ran. Just the thought of it completely freaked me out.

I'm with Dani on this one: How is milking a cow considered maltreatment or "unethical treatment of animals" as they title themselves?

Oh my goodness, and what do they expect Ben and Jerry's to do, go out and say, Hey, we need some mom's who are lactating to donate their breastmilk for our ice cream. Never mind that it is IMPORTANT for children to get that, not the mass ice-cream-eating public?

My goodness. Unbelievable. I'm still shaking my head. My Lily couldn't tolerate breastmilk but for some reason never had a problem with formula or normal milk. I was the same way. I wonder if there are many others like us that Ben and Jerry's would become problematic for should they make such a change.

Wow.

Ick. I read about this the other day, and just... gross.
Personally, I wouldn't eat it. I have nothing against breast milk, when its feeding babies. I'm all for breast feeding. But ice cream made out of breast milk? I'm sorry, but who in their right midn would actually WANT to eat that.

hmmm, in the first place, if there's "surplus" of breast milk I think it should go to a "breast milk bank" for infants whose mummies are not able to breast feed them rather than for commercial use...

as for breast milk to replace cow's milk, am not so sure what to think... I mean cow's milk is for well, cows and human milk is for human right? maybe it's a perception thingy?

Ewwwwwww-I hadn't heard of this. So I just went and read an article. Ick.

Sorry PETA but what stupid idea. It is unethical to milk cows so lets milk women.

I read this the other day and it only confirms my belief that PETA members suffer from some strange form of insanity. They raise 9 kinds of he** about animal rights and then members like Pamela Anderson have lips that are injected with cow and/or pig parts.

While my infant children were quite fond of breast milk, I never felt the urge for a sip. :-)

Lisa @ Boondock Ramblings said...

Oh that is gross. I have breast fed my son and it is good for infants, but I don't want to drink the milk from another woman's boobs...ya know?

It is bad enough it comes from a dirty cow's udder.

Yikes!

Scary! What if we got Angelina Jolie's milk or something? I'm sooo scared!

Lisa @ Boondock Ramblings said...

Plus, if you don't milk the cow...she'll explode.

Same with a woman, but come on...really?

Yeah I'm with ya on this. I actually can't stand the taste of regular milk either ... but breast milk? Uh No.

The other day Zac was asking about the treatment of chickens and I had to tell him, "do you like having meat and chicken on the table?"

He said, "yeah why".

I said well ... if you continue talking about this, then I won't want to put that on the table anymore because I'll be grossed out too much ... which means you'll be a vegetarian".

To which he said, "fair enough ... do you think the veggies scream when you pull them out of the ground?"

There is no way I would even consider it. Ever considered that whatever the woman eats, the baby (or whoever else in this case!) eats? Whatever a woman DRINKS is in her milk. Ya ya ya - I know, we don't REALLY know what's going into the cows . . . but still.

Nope. Not happenin'. And there is no way Ben and Jerry's would do this. It would be the end of their business. Their labels have a friggin' cow on' em for crying out loud! It's just another stunt from PETA.

While I'm all for the ethical treatment of animals, there are way more people in this world that need our help in being treated ethically.

I'm sorry - but they're dairy cows. They eat grass, they give milk. That's what they're here for.

I believe (IMHO)that God put animals here for our needs. The Native Americans used the ENTIRE buffalo because that is what they needed to survive.

And see, I need ice cream to survive! ; ) Human breast milk is for babies, not my ice cream. Cow's milk is for my ice cream. End of story.

Did you notice your poll is 100% for "Not on your life!?" HA!

Pregnantly Plump said...

I kept seeing headlines about this, but never clicking on the story.
I could not imagine eating ice cream made from breastmilk from who knows what woman. That would be a crazy assembly line, wouldn't it?

I am all for breast milk. FOR BABIES. Anything else just gives me the heebie jeebies. What next snot ice cream?

Kelly said...

I breastfed all 3 of my boys and am all for breastmilk....for kids. I don't want to eat ice cream made with a stranger's breast milk. blech

Persnickety Ticker said...

Personally, I belong to another chapter of PETA. That would be the People for the Edible Tastiness of Animals.

But that's just me.

And the breastmilk in my B&J's? Ewwwww...gross.

JCK said...

That sounds disgusting. Really sounds like a ploy to get media attention. I mean...COME ON! Soy milk ice cream is quite good, actually.

Unknown said...

Ice Cream is meant to be tasty and somewhat unhealthy...moderation is the name of the game.
In no way, shape or form should the word YUCK be associated with Ice Cream!
Oh my....

I think it's nuts. No I wouldn't want to eat ice cream with breast milk and how the heck could they get that much breast milk anyway? Can you see a bunch of women all lined up trying to express like crazy. This idea had to have been suggested by someone who has never tried to express even one bottle of breast milk. I just laughed when I heard this. What next?

bren j. said...

Seriously? Okay, THAT is just disgusting. *shudder*

I'm trying to envision what that sort of factory would look like....haha...

Okay that one made me barf a little in my mouth. Ick.

I’ll just say a simple – “NO THANKS” and leave it at that. :)

Either PETA did not think through the logistics on this one; or they did and have totally cracked their respective heads.
With a mix of comedy and horror, I too am trying to imagine the 'milking stations', and with horror only the amount of human torture it would take or evolve into to make this plan work.
Yep, they have lost their ever-loving minds.

Although breast milk in ice cream would do wonders to scratch it completely off my intake list!
