Boobs ... Ugh!

On The Flipside Guest Blogger: Dani from Give Me A Second To Think About It

My good friend, Dani, published this post on her blog and has agreed to repost it here On The Flipside in order to possibly encourage some of my readers to offer guidance. Please offer Dani your advise in the comments and also don't forget to go over and meet Dani and say hello. Thanks, Dani.

Boobs ...Ugh!

i never had them (to speak of), and i never wanted any more than what i didn't already have!!! so, you can only imagine my horror when i turned 35 and they started growing...

LONGER!!!

not only did they grow...

LONGER,

they didn't exactly grow to the same length:/

well, maybe they did intend to grow congruently.. it's just that a couple of years prior, i had to have my left, top rib removed because it was impeding my circulation. my ob/gyn informed me that the surgery is what has caused my incongruency.

so, i decided to have a "boob job". i checked around to find the very best doctor. my ob/gyn referred me. i sat up my appointment...

and, then...

at 2:30 am (6 hours before my appointment)...

I CHICKENED OUT!!!

I COULDN'T DO IT!!!

at 2:30 am... i called the plastic surgeon's office

(knowing i would get his answering service)...

(knowing i wouldn't be asked to reschedule)...

and told the woman that i needed to cancel my appointment. (whew-wee!!! she obliged!!!)

so, now...

i'm back to my original dilemma.

i don't like that i have boobs i never wanted.

i don't like that they hang... LONG!!!

and i HATE that one hangs about 3/4" longer than the other:S

what should i do???

what would you do???

love and blessings, lopsided dani Xx

Ooh...this is a tough one! I would've chickened out like you too. Actually, I would've chickened out much earlier -- as in, I never would've made the appointment to begin with!!

I don't have any advice, as I love my boobs (practically the only part of me that I actually like), but hang in there -- no pun intended! :)

I have no idea unless you might consider a visit to Victoria's Secret. They have some mighty fine bras for every type of figure. Most women have one boob bigger than the other.

Jason, as himself said...

I love your new profile pic, Kellen.

May I still comment even though I'm not a woman?

My opinion is if a woman is so unhappy with herself that she can't stop thinking about it, then a boob job could be a good thing. I view it as fixing something that is "broken," if indeed she feels it needs fixing.

HOWEVER, I think a woman should be careful in her choice--the new breasts should still look somewhat natural. I happen to live in an area where there are lots of "fixed boobs" but when they come out of a woman's shoulders, that just does not look good.

I'm sure everyone is glad to have my opinion on the matter!

I agree with Brenda and Jason. Victorias Secret or boob job. Good Luck!!!

I think Cheri really said it well.

Surgery is a huge thing. If you have any doubts at all, I wouldn't do it.

I think it's something you have to have to be very sure about doing. If you're uncertain than it's good to take some time to re-think. If it were me I know I'd do it. But that's because I have large boobs and at 28 they're already heading south! I've all but decided if weight loss doesn't shrink them then I'll do something about it.

I have no idea... other than, either find a realyl good bra... one that does it's job and keeps them at the same, uh, length... or go ahead with the boob job.
Though, personally, I think I'd just finda really good bra. Unless you got to the point where you couldn't handle havign two different length boobs anymore... then I guess boob job.

I have been reading all of the above comments and i agree with what everyone has written.
Good Luck Dani with your decision!

I completely agree that if you have any qualms whatsoever, you should not have the surgery. I am another one who has always liked my boobs just fine just as they are. Even now that they have headed WAY south, I'm still fine with them just as they are, so it's not a decision I'd ever have to make. Whatever you decide to do, Dani, just make it be what you REALLY want just for yourself. Maybe even consult with a couple of other plastic surgeons?

Best of luck with your decision!

i love your illustration. thanks for that!

maybe you should go bra shopping with someone who has had a boob job.

First of all I am going against the majority here. I think you should go ahead with the consultaion. Here is why. I have heard more than one story about a plastic surgeon who told women that they really didn't need surgery; just a more supportive bra. Then you wouldn't wonder if you should have done it.
I guess the key would be to find a PS with scruples. Good luck.

Second I think I would not go under the knife. But VS sound like a great idea though. Can I come too?

Dani, I had breat lift/reduction done at the same time almost 3 years ago. It was the best thing i've ever done.. but recovery WAS painful! Good luck honey!

My sister had a mysectomy and breast implant. She said the pain from the implant was worse than having her breast removed. I couldn't do it, at least, I don't think so. I'd just have to get a good bra. Margie

I'm on the other side of this (size 6 pants, but ridiculous 32DDD breasts), but I hear you! I had reduction scheduled 6 years ago, but canceled it a week before. In order to have insurance pay for it, I would have to have gone to a large A cup, and I wasn't willing to do that. Now I'm happy that tons of companies make great bras and bathing suits in larger cup sizes. So I say splurge on some great bras.

Years a go I would have said never! After a year of nursing...as well as age! I'm all for a lift in that department!

Oh my gosh, would you know I never even bothered to look to see if mine were different? And they are, a bit, I think...but for me, it doesn't matter. If it DOES matter to you, then I would hit the VS store and ask for advice before going in for a surgical procedure. If they can help you, wonderful. If they CAN'T, or you aren't happy with the results, then your next logical step is to head back to a surgeon. If it were me, I would only go for a surgical fix if there was pain (they weighed too darn much or something). For cosmetic reasons, I would stick to something like a bra. Again, that is ME. I'm not YOU. It's your choice, but as others said, if there is even a shred of doubt in your mind about a surgery, DON'T do it. Wait until there is NO shred, or just don't do it. That probably didn't help a bit, but...good luck to you in whatever you decide.

If it bothers you, fix it. If you can live with it (with a good old fashioned wire bra with push up!) then leave em. We're all imperfect, it's what makes us beautiful.

The decision is so yours to make, Dani...so all I'll say is you're far from alone! (Nursing twins will do a number on the latitude of breast residence!)

If it makes you feel better, not only are mine "longer" they "point" in different directions, if you will! ;)

I'm okay with it...hubby seems to be...

Good luck with your decision!

Forget the surgery. You didn't chicken out. You had an intuitive sense that it was wrong for you. Follow your gut.
Then, get that secret tattoo that you have always thought about but would never actually do, on the little, er...long one and I'll bet then you will love her too.

You know, after I got glasses, I noticed that one of my eyebrows was slightly higher than the other. I doubt that anyone else has ever noticed that before or since, but it drives me crazy. And keep in mind, this is right in the middle of my FACE - where everyone can see it. More than likely, you are the only one who notices or cares. If you can make peace with that, you may be able to just live with it.

Notice I didn't say anything about your husband or partner. If he's like most guys, he just likes boobs no matter what they do!

It sounds like the decision for this surgery was made too rashly – maybe not by you, but by the professionals involved. I think you should talk to someone about it, discuss the reasons that you would like to do this as well as your fears. Maybe make out a list of pro’s and con’s. Talk to your husband, how does he feel about it? And I don’t want to come across as someone who is ‘preaching’, but I think you should pray about it. This is a big decision for you and it sounds like something you really would like to do. God can help you with this: he will either help you love yourself, as you are, or he will take away your fears so that you can move forward. Put it in His able hands and let him guide you.
