Truth wrote an interesting post on her site on 8/5/08 about lingerie and agreed to repost it her On The Upside - Thanks Truth!
Please read her fun post below and then I'd love to hear your opinion.
Lingerie
An invitation arrived in the mail. A Lingerie Shower.
The intention of a bridal shower is to aid the newlywed couple as they establish their own home The lingerie concept enables the bride to ditch her old, tattered, worn-out undergarments for pretty, new ones. After all, the new hubby will soon be privy to every hidden article of clothing his lovely bride could previously hide.
Or do young ladies today not keep tattered underwear and desire more, um, exotic under clothes and night wear? Years ago, we had two choices in underwear: briefs or bikini cut. That's it. With such variety, I figured I should ask what the preference might be. Surely there could be no embarrassment. The invitation already listed a bra & panty size. But wait, maybe the groom should get an opinion. I sent a text message to my son, Christopher.
"I know this is awkward, but I'm going shopping for Lauren's Lingerie Shower. Do you have any preference?" I waited for his reply.
"Mom. There is no way I'm going to discuss lingerie preferences with you."
I laughed and laughed. I suppose this is not unlike the shocking realization that your parents have had sex at least once in their lives.

I'd love to hear your opinion. Do you think men care about what lingerie women wear or is it really only the woman that cares?
Do you like lingerie? Buy a lot? Spend lots of money on lingerie?

I really think some men might but I love lingerie just because I like a little "fancy" sometimes.
If it doesn't bind,
or itch,
or fail to cover all I want covered.
i'm pretty sure that they care... lol!!! as i lie here in my men's xl tee and Christmas, flannel pj bottoms:b
poor john:I

Yes...I think they care very much. But I think I would be embarrassed to have my MIL pick out any lingerie for me. ;P
I actually think men care more than women, especially after a certain age when women buy undergarments for comfort rather than looks. But the looks are still important to the men.
I do buy alot of lingerie ~ I love shopping for it!! I am sure that men do care ~ in their own special way ha ha !!
I think men care for all of about the 30 seconds it takes to remove it, lol
I also think they don't like trying to deal with all the little hooks/eyes and laced up ties!
Now in photos (magazines)... I think they care *wink*
I think some do care. My husband definitely chimes in if I even mention I need new underwear. He has even offered to go with me so he could pick out what he'd like to see me in, which I did let him, btw.
I love lingerie!
And I think men really like it.They might not express themselves as they should but it's an important issue in a couple's love life.
xoxo
I think that men care . . . to a certain extent. I think they are happy to see a female that looks good. Nothing "grandma" or old/holey works well for them, but I don't think that it needs to be Maxim quality stuff either.
I think it just depends on the man. I told my husband once not to waste money on buying flowers because I'd rather have one bigger nicer item that would last than lots of bunches of flowers that would die. He in turn told me not to waste money on lingerie...he's very goal oriented and the lingerie just gets in the way! LOL
I don't think men really CARE what the lingerie looks like. My wise uncle told me at our wedding shower (after I had opened a present containing lingerie), "Do you know how I shop for that stuff? I take it off the hanger and throw it on the floor. If it looks good there then I buy it, that's where it will end up anyways!" After I recovered from my obvious embarrassment at discussing this stuff with my uncle in front of my entire family, I realized that entire statement is true! LOL!!
I no longer buy a lot, or spend a lot of $ on lingerie, at least not like I used to when we were younger.
I suppose some men have a preference but I bet it's mild. I don't spend much money on lingerie. I'm all about comfort.
I think that as long as you're wearing it, your man will be happy! Although, my hubby does like certain colors and styles. ;-)
One year my New Year's Resolution was to buy one new piece of lingere a month...that was a GREAT year! hahaha I need to do that again. I don't even remember the last time I bought lingere. Ever sicne the baby was born (15 months ago) I haven't been that into lingere. Thanks for the reminder.

I know my husband likes it, and he probably wouldn't care if I spent a little more money on it.
Must do some shopping soon. It's been ages!

I think men care. Of course they care more about just getting it off!! But the 'wrapping paper' can definitely improve the mood!
HA! I cannot picture me asking one of my boys that in the future...and I am sure if I did their responses would be something similar.
I don't think men care too much about it as long as you're wearing it and they can see it. Beyond that, they don't seem too particular to me ;-)
I think men care...probably more than women...I like lingerie but I reach for cotton t-shirt and flannel a lot quicker....than lingerie. My hubby prefers the lingerie....
I think men care (sometimes) but they probably don't want to talk about it with their mothers/sisters/grandmothers etc....
I buy it, but not too often, and only on sale ;)
I own no lingerie! Not one piece. I think it's a waste of money, because it only stays on for 1 minute (if we're lucky).
I think my hubby would prefer I walk around naked, over wearing lingerie. ha ha ha.
It would be interesting to hear what the men would say. I've always thought underclothes were extremely important to men. But now I'm having to rethink this after reading the repsonses here.
Brittany, really? You don't own any lingerie? Does that mean you don't wear ANY bras or underwear? Or does lingerie have to be exclusively fancy and underwear in and of itself is just plain underwear. I put all undergarments/nightwear into the lingerie department.
I would love to spend more on lingerie. I personally feel more feminine when I wear pretty undies. Men (as far as those I've known in my life) do care about what you wear
They care. Hubby used to buy it for me -- but I prefer to buy my own. I want it comfortable as WELL as pretty. However, after a few years, some things have to be practical...sigh!
I think they like to see us just simply trying to look pretty for them and mostly showing that we love them ...those things come off and its just no big deal...I still think it is about our attitude more than what we do or do not wear. :)
That's stupid. Its money. Why spend tons of money on underwear (having other people spend it too) when more likely than not you need things for your house more. My husband likes something fun to look at now and then but 99% of the day it would be pointless to go out and by all new underthings because I'm getting married. Plus, its better for someone to buy these things for herself so they actually fit. Just seems strange.
I think it's fun to have a couple of bits for him, if you know what I mean. Anyway, you have to wear undergarments, you may as well have them match and have a bit of flare! I go for colour coordination betwixt the bra and underware, after that, I could add pieces for him that are more spicey. I don't have mass amounts of "for him" stuff, because it's not that comfortable and I don't want to wear that stuff under my clothes . . . it's bothersome.
Just my two cents.
I think it is the whole "taking it off" process that makes them care. Takes them back to the days when the question raced through their minds: How fast can I get this bra off, if at all? Somehow, a big old t-shirt doesn't have the same allure as a black, sheer thing with matching bra and panties.
And... I would be happy to have my MIL pick stuff out for me, but she'd have to change her style first. For my shower, she gave me a piece that 11 years later, I would still be struggling to get to first base with. SCARY, but nice sentiment!
